Celebrating Our Alumni: Emma Zhang Returns to BHIS

This week, Beijing Horizon International School was once again graced by one of our most exceptional alumni, Emma Zhang from the Class of 2015, who has truly blossomed into a remarkable professional. Emma’s visit brought back warm memories of how her time at our school has led to lasting influences, both during her studies and beyond.

Emma walked onto campus with a bright smile, instantly uplifting the spirits of students and faculty alike with her infectious enthusiasm. The entire school community gathered in the auditorium as Principal Li introduced Emma, highlighting her impressive achievements since graduating. Emma has pursued a career in Environmental Science, specializing in sustainable practices and climate change mitigation, becoming a leading figure in environmental advocacy.

Following her introduction, Emma conducted a series of interactive workshops designed to engage students in meaningful discussions about sustainability and environmental responsibility. She shared her insights on the pressing challenges our planet faces today, including climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss.

During one of the workshops, students participated in an active brainstorming session focused on practical solutions to environmental challenges. Emma encouraged them to think deeply and creatively, emphasizing that even the smallest actions can lead to significant change. “You are the next generation of leaders,” she asserted. “Your ideas and actions matter.”

Throughout her visit, Emma shared personal stories about how her experiences at BHIS shaped her values and career trajectory. She recounted how her teachers nurtured her curiosity and passion for science, inspiring her to study Environmental Science at a top university. Emma stressed the importance of resilience and adaptability, noting that challenges often present opportunities for growth. “I remember feeling lost at times during my studies,” she reflected. “But the support from my teachers and peers at BHIS helped me navigate those challenges. Remember, it’s okay to ask for help and seek guidance.”

The highlight of Emma’s visit was an open Q&A session, where students eagerly posed questions about her career and experiences. The auditorium buzzed with curiosity as students raised their hands to learn more about her journey.

One student asked, “What advice would you give us as we start thinking about our careers?” Emma replied, “Follow your passion and don’t be afraid to take risks. The journey may not always be straightforward, but every experience will teach you something valuable.”

Students also inquired about the biggest challenges she faces in her field. Emma discussed the complexities of environmental policy and the necessity of interdisciplinary collaboration. “It’s essential to work together,” she emphasized. “Environmental issues affect everyone, and a collective approach is vital for solving these problems.”

As her visit drew to a close, Emma expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to return to BHIS. “This school played a pivotal role in shaping who I am today,” she remarked. “I hope to inspire you all to pursue your dreams and make a difference in the world, just as my teachers inspired me.”

Emma’s visit was not only enriching for our current students but also reinforced the core values of the BHIS community. Her story embodies the school’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals ready to make positive contributions to society.

Beijing Horizon International School is dedicated to fostering connections between current students and alumni. We believe these relationships enhance the student experience and encourage them to follow in the footsteps of those who have paved the way before them.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Emma Zhang for returning to share her journey and insights. We look forward to welcoming many more alumni back to campus, celebrating the achievements and positive changes our graduates are making in the world.
